About The Director Gail Avent

Gail AventGail Bio serves as the Executive Director and founder of Total Family Care Coalition, a family-run organization and is responsible for ensuring overall organizational operations. She is recipient a federal Statewide Family Network grant from the Substance Abuse Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA). Ms. Avent is also the Lead Family Contact Lead providing oversight of contract and ensures advocacy for families and youth through the implementation of System of Care (SOC) for DBH. Gail partners with DBH to develop certified family and youth peer support worker training's and serves as committee chair on DBH’s Peer Certification Committee. Gail is a recognized subject matter expert on developing peer support workforce's. Gail is the parent of four children. She knows about loss, she lost two children. Gail has experienced losing a son who joined the military to pursue his dream and to lose his life in a street robbery. Gail has a son who struggles with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorder. Gail has a great deal of experience in navigating various service systems. Gail has held many positions over the years ranging from being a metropolitan police officer, attorney and director of a workers compensation and safety program. Gail holds a Bachelor of Criminal Justice Degree from American University, Juris Doctorate degree from Antioch School of Law and Master in Business Administration from Strayer University. Gail is also a graduate of Georgetown University Leadership Academy. Read more

TFCC Signs Contract to Provide Services for the Deparment of Human Services

Total Family Care Coalition (TFCC) will be working with the Department of Human Services to support at-risk youth by-way of the: Alternatives to Court Experience Diversion Program (ACE), the Parent and Adolescent Support Services Program (PASS), and Teen Parent Assement Program (TPAP).

TFCC Sets to Begin Working With the Children National Health System

Total Family Care Coalition (TFCC), will be working with the Children National Health System; providing consultation on their early childhood innovation network project.

Continuation as a Statewide Family Network Grantee

TFCC continues to lead as a Statewide Family Network Grantee, empowering small family-run organizations working on the DC Youth Move Chapter. A Youth Development Lead Specialist will be coming on board very soon to lead in development. 

emPower Radio Interview

In January Gail Avent was interviewed as a guest for emPower Hour on WPFW 89.3. The interview was conducted with Ms. DeShuna Spencer, CEO of Liu Karama Productions, LLC and Founder/Publisher of emPower magazine. The broadcast focused upon Ms. Avent's development of the TFCC organization and her involvement in promoting family and youth advocacy for systemic change throughout the District. 

Certified Peer Specialist Training

Anticipation is growing as we look towards the upcoming Certified Peer Specialist Training provided by Department of Behavior Health. Classes will take place from June 2 to July 11, 2014. For more information click here. A new highlight of the training is an added optional track dealing specifically with family service. Deadline for registration is February 28, 2014 and applications can be acquired through DMH at this link:
